E, I clicked on the link, you graciously provided, but saw no reference to the book of John. That doesn't mean it wasn't there, I just didn't see it, so I went to my Bible. As is quite often the case, would be critics of Jesus have quoted this particular verse as an indication that Christ hated all Jews, and was totally anti-Semitic, without making reference to the passages that preceded it. Knowing PROLIFE as I do, I feel confident that he was aware of these previous passages when he quoted John 8:44. Of course, any discussion, of any portion, of the Bible depends on the parties believing the words of the Bible. Without that factor, any discussion will end in total futility.

John 8:37 "...And yet some of you are trying to kill me because my message does not find a place in your hearts."

John 8:41 "No, you are not obeying your real Father WHEN YOU ACT THAT WAY." (I'm not shouting, I don't know how to italicize.)

Then the verse 8:44 which was quoted. I am adding two passage in the aftermath of this one.

John 8:47 "Anyone whose Father is God listens gladly to the words of God. SINCE YOU DON'T, it proves you aren't God's children."

John 8:58 " At that point they picked up stones to kill Him."

It appears to me that Jesus was speaking to a particular group of Jews who were attacking Him, probably on instructions from the Pharisees. I have no problem with Jesus lambasting them with a show of righteous anger. There is no indication that Jesus felt this way about all Jews. In checking this out, I found some references to passages in Paul's letters to the Romans that may indicate a totally different attitude but, I have not studied them yet. I will do so soon and keep you informed of my findings. ~H~

E, To follow up on my previous post, I believe the following scriptures reinforce my theory.

Romans 11:1 "I ask, then, has God rejected His people, the Jews? Of course not!"

" 11:16 "And since Abraham and the other patriarchs were holy, their children will also be holy."

" 11:17 "But SOME of these branches from Abraham's tree, SOME of the Jews, have been broken off."

" 11:24 "...-He will be far more eager to graft the Jews back into the tree where they belong."

" 11:26 " And so ALL Israel will be saved."

Some might say that this is God speaking, instead of Jesus but, Christians know that God the Father, Jesus the Lord and Savior, and the Holy Spirit are one in the same. ~H~
