Hello Scott,

<<Wow ... what does it take to get the execs of NOVL to understand and talk about caching?>>

You are right, this should be a wake up call for Novell Execs, instead they are sitting back (it seems) taking a "wait until we show them" attitude. Well that's great but you still need to get the excitement flowing BEFORE you show anyone anything!

As a stockholder I'd like to see some marketing done on the caching. I'd go as far as demanding it too if I could extract the revenue stream from Novell's numbers to justify my rationale. Using the revenue numbers to show that Novell sells more caching software than it's largest competitor could be it's own print ad!

All I'm saying is just use testimonials from current users. By the way, is there a list of current companies using ICS?
Novell should take the same approach that Oracle did when they started their TV ads regarding "oracle, used by all the big internet companies" like eBay, Amazon, etc.

All Novell needs is a 30 second spot on CNBC twice a day for a month and their name will be tied to caching. And I'm not syaing it needs to be such a big production, just a blank screen with company names fading in and the camera pulling back to reveal more and more names. Get James Earl Jones to do the voice-over and it's a winner!

It's all about positioning Novell in the minds of the public and Wall Street. Get investors asking the right questions, the investment people will start asking "is Novell into caching?" and before you know it, everyone knows it.

[PS - There was a post earlier on this thread regarding ICS sales vs BorderManager sales and that Novell "lumps" these 2 products together in their reporting.

I don't think there should be a differentiation between ICS and BorderManager sales in terms of caching product. Unless you were able to extract information regarding which installations of BorderManager we NOT utilizing the caching feature. But since the caching feature is so easy to setup and deploy with BorderManager, almost everyone does it (to my knowledge).

I do understand that the main selling point of BorderManager is network security and not web acceleration but if the service is deployed....it is still a Novell caching solution. IMHO, the caching component of BorderManager is almost an "entry point" to ICS. There's a strong up-sell channel there if exploited correctly.]
