I was thinking about that, too. I guess they pay a lot of money in taxes, having no dependents and mortgage interest to deduct, but a $35 dinner becoming unaffordable is just plain unbelieveable. It is hard to find a good place that serves dinner for two for $35 in the Boston area, anyway.

It is amazing, though, that $60k in equities (and a $30k drop in it at worst) makes the difference of and extra $150k in affordable home mortgage. While the media is focusing on the market, the effect of mortgage interest deduction is being ignored.
