THINGS LOOKING "UP" IN SUDAN!

April 22, 2000

KHARTOUM, Sudan (PANA) - The Sudanese ministry of health has licensed the distribution of Viagra, the drug widely
believed to correct erectile dysfunction.

The marketing manager of Medica Company, authorised dealers of Viagra, Kamal Mohammed Ahmed told PANA Saturday
that the health ministry has named only three pharmacies in Khartoum to distribute the drug.

He said the ministry has confined its prescription to internal medicine specialists, psychiatrists and urologists.

A massive gathering of doctors and pharmacists last week attended a symposium that Medica organised in Khartoum to
promote drug.

The audience was largely inquisitive about its safety and possible side effects.

A representative of the American manufactures Pfizer, Zaki Gasmu, told the audience that there was no need to panic as the
drug is now administered worldwide.

"About 200,000 Viagra prescriptions are written every day by doctors the world over and if the drug was not safe authorities
in those countries would not have permitted it," he claimed.

Ahmed said the first shipment of the drug is already pending clearance at Khartoum Airport.

"The drug will be put for sale by the end of this week, he said, adding that his firm will stick to the regulations by not selling
the drug without a prescription from an authorised doctor.
