Hi Frank - no one here would be anything less than civil to you. The conversation that ensued after your initial post was very interesting.

Frank,

You wrote "I know there have been excesses on my side as well."

The excesses you talk of shocked me to my core. Having read both, my personal call is that the current payback is somewhere between .1% and 1% as bad as the original provocation.

I'm an engineer and make a good chunk of my living quantifying things (see my performance in the 2000Q1 EPS contest). My .1% to 1% is not a joke.

Mike

Frank re <<I expected to be flamed, and none of you did that.>>

Frank, even at the time, when owning AMD was not hip, you were respectful to all, and as you should expect, we are respectful in return.

No need to read 2-3 years worth of post. Just go back exactly 12 months, and read some posts. In a very short time you will see that the amount of insults and personal attack by the likes of Paul, Yousef and Elmer is by far and away worse than anything it has given back to them. If you find the current exchange bad, I expect you would be SHOCKED! by how it was then.

Frank, not to belabor this or anything, but the one thing that sort of annoys me around here is all the known Intel employees doing what appears to be official dissembling. And I don't mean Paul Engel, who could take him seriously? (Though I might have to dig up my bulk download software some day and dig up this old message I recall from an unrelated thread, where some twit labeled Paul Engel "the wisest poster on SI").

I'm a fairly recent and occasional participant here. I got no great love of Intel, but I've always respected their engineering, I got 5 Intel processors running in my immediate vicinity at the moment, I could turn on a 6th, and I don't own a single AMD chip. Though I'm somewhat chagrined at not picking up a K6-III 400 when they were down to $60, to replace the P133. I'm somewhat with Scumbria on Intel and Willy, I expect it to be a pretty good part when Intel gets it out. Meanwhile, they should just shut up. You'd think the local participants might have better things to do with their time, unless it's part of the job description, in which case maybe the job description should be rewritten.

Cheers, Dan.
