On that page you will find an url labelled 'Fray Bartolom‚ de las Casas', click it, you get this - newadvent.org

He wrote a collection of works now known as 'Las L grimas de los Indios', 'The Tears of the Indians' .... it is imho absolutely fundamental to an understanding of latinos, of La Raza C¢smica of Vasconcelos, to begin with this book ... the story hasn't really changed all that much, just the names and faces ... Cuba, among many other places, has never been permitted to know democracy, and you'd have a hard time convincing me that those dictators-in-waiting in Miami would permit it.

I'd forgotten how virulent was the church slant on the good Fray -

"The laws of the Indies were gradually modified so as to afford the
necessary protection to the natives without injuring too much the interests
of the settlers. But the bitterness of Las Casas grew with age. In 1552
there appeared in print his "Brev¡sima Relacion de la Destruycion de las
Indias", a most injudicious book, glaringly partial, based upon testimony
often very impeachable and always highly coloured. That so passionate
and one-sided a document should have been published with the
permission of the authorities argues a broad tolerance on the part of the
Spanish Government...
"

What a crock ... 'settlers' my arse, they were murdering thieving slavemasters
... propaganda is certainly not a new thing, is it.
