Sammy,

I think it's a question of whether you're using exponential or simple moving averages. The exponential moving averages have practically been sitting on top of each other for the last 9 periods with less that 0.15 difference between them. At this point, the simple ma(8)= 44.227 and simple ma(5)= 44.413 -- not the most authoritative crossover yet.

sammy,

Welcome to the BTTT thread!

Thanks for your comments on SCH. My guess is that you will see a clear signal with simple MA's rather than EMA's.

And yes, in this system one waits until a clear signal is established. The "clarity" of the signal is still something I am tweaking, and it requires some subjectivity. Sometimes MA's cross and uncross within the same hour bar, simply due to volatility. My present habit, due to work, is to check at the following times, and trade accordingly:

open, 10:30, 12, 1:30, 3, 3:30-4.

If things are getting close to a signal, I'll watch it more closely if possible. But I've missed signals several times, and am still making money.

My sense is that this system might still work well with EOD traders, though still using hourly charts for the signals.

TC.
