hi tc, thanks for the reply. yep, i'm still dealing with it. i'm trading email with a dell tech right now, in fact. he's stumped <g3>. i uninstalled a program that may be the offender. and i'm paying closer attention when it happens to the particulars such as when, where, what and how. i figure it'll get fixed. your idea is a good one and i'll try it in sequence. that is, i don't want to try too many changes at once or i'll lose sight of what does and doesn't work, you know? yes, we were posting here not long ago about rolling back hardware acceleration for some mouse pointer probs, i think. :) mark
