You shouldn't drive by looking in the rear-view mirror. Everything you say about MSFT's past is true, but the company's much bigger now and it just gets hard to keep growing at 40%. I'd rather stick with the more conservative 20% forecast for purposes of investment. It's true that success in some of the businesses they've missed the boat on (e.g. palmtops) could give us some upside from that, but I find 40% compounded for 5 years a very questionable forecast.

I see MSFT in the mid too low 20's by year 00 end.
