Today many of us remember a man who was killed for blasphemy two thousand years ago. Many of us believe that he was God. Many others believe that he was a son of God. Others of us think that he was a son of someone and cannot know if he was different from ourselves. He was a man, some say, without sin. Others say that his rebellious, insubordinate, contentious nature was meant to save mankind although he was just a man and was killed by conservative Jews for his anti-Jewish activities.
Almost everyone is sorry that he was killed. Killing him did not prevent the destruction of Temple and the Jewish state. Killing him did not destroy the movements of those who followed him. Many of his words live on in the hearts and minds of billions of people. Most of us believe that most are true words, and it matters not if he was God, or the son of God, or merely a man who paid the final price for what he believed.
