rudedog, the consumer market is not just one buyer, but instead is a segmented market. Dell as usual is picking and choosing where they compete. On the other hand, Dell has said that they are waiting for Intel products like Timna before considering a lower end segment. You may be right though that Dell never enters into the lowest end of the consumer market, but I am not gifted with 20-20 foresight.

In regards to consumers buying direct or via the internet, I suspect that the younger buyers are like my niece and are more comfortable with the newer methods of making a purchase. As for myself, it is a lot more trouble for me to drive around town looking for the best deals, or to drive across town only to find that the merchandise is not on the self (even groceries). This is a common shopper frustration and loss of time. I could see in the not too distant future as a result of B2B initiatives, that I could make my purchases after previewing a store's inventory on the net.

Best
Mike
