<< I know there wont be any need for awile but I am talking about looking at the question from the perspective of a year from now, if AMD does very well in that year, and takeing into consideration that if AMD does decide to do this in a year it would probably be 3 maybe even 4 years before the new fab would be ramped up. It must be difficult to plan for these things given the long lead time and large invesment required. >>

The one thing AMD has going for it in this regard, is that fujitsu is building fabs in conjunction with AMD for flash, so they shouldn't need space for that. By mid next year we should be on .13 micron, which means we should double capacity in both existing fabs. If AMD keeps doing well, they will need to add fab capacity, but I think they will be able to go farther than a lot of people think on the two fabs they have now.

F AMD continues to execute well throughout this year and beyond, and demand continues to outstrip supply even as Dresden ramps all the way up,and AMD retires a lot of debt and is sitting on cash, would it be time to start thinking about a new fab?

Tim

I don't know....but I do know it would be time for me to be looking for a new car....or rather should I say a new class of car!! ;~))

AMD needs to keep pace with Intel on 300mm wafer. Wherever it will be, I hope it is not in Texas.
