Fred.. Do yourself a favor.. Skip all the full service ISP's. Go with someone local. I have had all three, MSN, AOL, and Minspring...

MSN was ALWAYS busy....
AOL isn't bad but the software F&%ks things up on your PC.
Mindspring was strange.. Never got busy signal but I swear I was sharing modems with others. Long pauses and slowdowns.

I have tried both DSL and Cable..

DSL is the s&^t.. If you can get it.. Go with DSL. Only problem is not everyone can get it. I have ZERO downtime and best thing is, your always hot. No dial-up. Just double click Internet Explorer icon and your golden.

Cable modem is the next best thing. Problem is, you are sharing bandwidth so it slows down during busy internet times. Still 10X better than dial-up 56K. Also on full time. No dialing and very little downtime.

**Both DSL and Cable service is more expensive however, they require NO second phone line so take that second line out of the cost. (about 15 bucks).

Really dude.. you will wonder how you lived without it.

M

I use earthlink and they are fine ...

DSL is better, but I don't need it at this time ...

Frederick-

My father has used Mindspring for years and has been nothing but happy with it. I've been with my current ISP, a division of RCN, since 56k came out and I will actually be sorry to let it go when my DSL gets installed in a couple of weeks. My opinion is to stay away from the MSN/Compuserve/AOLs that are out there. Any ISP that focuses their attention on service/up-time is likely to be better then those that focus on their own proprietary content, IMO.

Fred - Since I noticed from your profile you are located "south" I would check and see if Bellsouth.net is available in your area.

If you put the billing on your phone bill it's only 14.95 / month and my dad has been happy with the service.
