the US was the only country where it was a crime for one of its citizens to bribe an official even when on foreign soil.

I did not know that.

Somewhat off topic - how did American oil companies do business in North Africa and the Middle East?

I suppose they did what everyone else does - pay out 'consultancy fees'; make 'charitable contribution' etc.

I object to the hypocrisy of the view that American companies, and QCOM in particular, has a holier than thou attitude when it comes to doing business.
