Does looking at a funky index prevent you from taking advantage of individual stocks that look great?
They only look great after you have taken a position and booked a profit.
In a down trending market great stocks can look even better. Add that the fed isn't going to provide a shoulder to cry on and one needs be a bit cautious about longs.

We're always on a stock by stock basis with P&F. However, we can't assume we have great field position just because things look low because they could go lower - much lower. Furthermore I wouldn't be putting the offense on the field until the indicators say its time.
