Paul..... >>Oh no its happened, I'm turning into Fred..... Looking at my recent post I have Novell subdividing into smaller companies....individuals are emerging from groups and these individuals are throwing off their managerial chains and liberating themselves from the Novell mindset. They are tossing away their Porshes and embracing pick-ups. They refuse to program in C++ and are demanding more JAVA. They are tossing the dedicated private network into the dustbin of history and embracing virtual private networks over the internet. They understand directory based apps. They have the POWER Fred. In fact I see them coming toward me in white jackets. ================ Would you wipe that smirk off your face!!!>> Well done!! Ok, the smirk is off....at least for now. Amazing what drama, energy, power and light can lurk inside behind our personal lampshades. I appreciate your concern - yes, this message - if taken literally - can evoke all the wild and crazy shades of ONE Flying Over "something"...... But let's not forget why we are here: Novell. Forget about "me" Paul. You can divert attention to me all you want, but what are you accomplishing? Put me in the tree for all I care. For I'm not going to get into these negative - I'm right, you're wrong (quid pro quo) - dialogues. Novell needs help right now. Massive change is needed across many, many fronts. There are treasures inside this company that have to get out to the light of day. It's going to take a mindset shift. A "letting go" perhaps. I agree with Scott. But let's leave Scott out of this, too. This is how "I" feel. Just like Scott, I believe there are other engineers inside Novell who "live, eat and breath" the net on their own who have great ideas, skills, energies, etc. And this is where the focus needs to be applied. Put these people on the pedestal. Let RISK flower. Let some new energy flow. One problem, however, is that Novell has a long history of classically CONTROLLING - upsetting/backdooring - the energies of engineers/individuals who innovate, risk and challenge the status quo. Good ideas are NOT embraced for there's too much negative political energy still in place inside this company. Individuals like Drew may be left alone, but that's part of the problem. Folks who have the energy and vision and ideas and skills should be running the new directions for this company. A year ago we all saw firsthand what they did to the DigitalMe initiative. Has there been an accounting for what happened? If not, then why not? The focus on this thread should be on Novell, Novell, Novell. I have inserted my energies and ideas to simply help catalyze or move this transformative process along. Let's move the focus BACK to why we are here. But nothing is going to happen if people don't challenge the status quo. Why is Novell trading just above $20?? We've seen it's market cap decline from $10.5 billion to $6.7 billion. BrainShare has come and gone. This is absolutely ridiculous! The way I see it is very SIMPLE. There is not enough fire, energy, belief, faith, power, vision and direction behind this story. Paul you can turn this thread into a counseling session or you can step up to the plate and help lead, evangelize, catalyze, transform change. Something needs to be done. And if there are managers/engineers who roll their eyes at Fred Smart and these ideas from me, you, Peter, Scott and I say "so what!!??" If anything, more power to you guys if all the eyes roll concerning "me". I am not in this for myself. I am here to SERVE. Helping to get people to "see" and "get" some new ideas or even a small glimpse of new energies is why I write the way I do. Back to Novell. Let's not kid ourselves, there's going to growing pressure for Novell to perform. Wall Street is NOT going to look kindly on this picture if it can "get" their message. The investing public is not going to look kindly on this picture if it can't understand what these folks are all about. And engineers and employees inside Novell aren't going to stick around while the hammerlock of these "same ole, same ole" internal political games are preventing the flowering and release and evangelization of great energy and great ideas into products and services that people - INDIVIDUALS - understand and can get EXCITED about. So Dr. Fiondella, while I appreciate your concerns, the patient is Novell - at least as far as this thread is concerned. Peace. GO!!
