Yeah, I think it is a good topic. I think a very interesting playing field is at hand.

T/ATHM, MSFT & AOL.
engineer, software and content.

The crude relationship is there and the reward is there. Almost all of the cable internet traffic in North America will be owned and run by AOL/T. Defining the boundaries and dividing up the gold is going to be a problem. Armstrong and Case - like two rams butting heads. They need each other and the relationship is legally unavoidable - T & AOL are going to be joint owners of roadrunner and something has to be done. T also wants a stronger relationship with MSFT. MSFT is one of the few businesses in the world that can throw hundreds of skilled programmers at a project.

So I guess AOL and T will have to make some kind of deal and T will job most of the software out to MSFT.

Incidentally, I am surprised at some of the recent posts. Apparently some people think that all you have to do is walk up to Cox or Comcast in a year or so and say "I can write a check.". Then, presto, the ferry godfather will make you just like ATHM. No need to build a multi billion dollar backbone!!

Either I am confused or they don't seem to understand. There are only a handful of players in the world, like WorldCom, that have the backbone ability to compete with ATHM. All this "I want to be a BB ISP" talk is about people who will rent bandwidth from someone like ATHM. Verio and other ISPs are not in the same category as ATHM.

Is it true that TWX is big in the islands?

I was on Maui for a vacation a couple months back and looked for evidence of broadband rollout. It wasn't clear. I saw alot of plant [lahaina] that didn't even look 2 way upgraded. There were fiber tags on the poles but very few HFC elements. Looks like they may have only been trying to eliminate long amplifier cascades.

Also who are your CLECs out there? Any evidence of time warner telecom [twtc]?
