BROCADE and VERITAS Software Deliver Three New, Pre-Tested Storage Area Network (SAN) Solutions
PR Newswire - April 24, 2000 08:37

Liquid Audio Uses New Solutions to Support Internet Music Downloads

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (BROCADE(R)) (Nasdaq: BRCD), the leading supplier of Fibre Channel fabric solutions for Storage Area Networking, and VERITAS(R) Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), the industry's leading enterprise-class application storage management software provider, announced today the availability of three new SAN (Storage Area Network) solutions that have been pre-tested by VERITAS Software and BROCADE. The solutions for LAN-Free Backup, Clustering, and Online Storage Management are currently used by Liquid Audio, Inc. (Nasdaq: LQID), a leading provider of software and services for the Internet delivery of music. Liquid Audio has implemented these solutions over a BROCADE-based multi-switch Fibre Channel SAN fabric, using VERITAS Software storage management and data protection software for the hosting and delivery of digital downloads.

"As leading providers of business-to-business e-commerce solutions for the music industry worldwide, Liquid Audio considers its IT infrastructure to be a competitive advantage. When we architected our data center we knew we'd need the flexibility of a Fibre Channel-based Storage Area Network to support our needs," said Matt Turner, director of Network Operations at Liquid Audio, Inc. "With the help of VERITAS Software consulting, we built a SAN running multiple applications to create the high-availability music delivery solution that we have in production today."

The three pre-tested solutions announced today by VERITAS Software and BROCADE include VERITAS Cluster Server, VERITAS NetBackup 3.2 with the Shared Storage Option, VERITAS Volume Manager, and BROCADE SilkWorm(R) 2400 and 2800 Fibre Channel fabric switches. All variations on these solutions were tested through the VERITAS Software SAN Integration Lab in Mountain View, Calif. and at BROCADE labs in San Jose.

"VERITAS Software and BROCADE have developed many pre-tested SAN solutions to help mutual customers take advantage of the benefits of Storage Area Networking technology," said Robin Purohit, senior director, SAN and Clustering Product Group, VERITAS Software. "Liquid Audio typifies a number of the customers we see today who are running multiple applications over Fibre Channel to maximize the capabilities of clustering and SAN virtualization software."

"As the leading provider of a scalable networking infrastructure for storage environments, we are pleased to work with VERITAS Software to pre-test these solutions in BROCADE-based SANs. By pre-testing the VERITAS Software solutions in a BROCADE environment, we further simplify SAN implementation for our mutual customers. LAN-free backup, clustering, and online storage management are some of the most important applications for storage area networking environments today," said Peter Tarrant, BROCADE vice president of marketing and business development.
