I have all ready exhausted my savings and I wrote a $1000 check off my Discover card. I no I really shouldn't use a credit card to by stock but I've never seen anything that looks like as good of opportunity. I've also applied for margin, but when I use it I will only put my margin ratio up to about 25%, I don't want to face too much risk of a margin call. If the stock goes into the 90's by the time my margin request is accepted I'll just sit on my current position instead. If AMD goes to 0 I still won't be bankrupt, I just will have to put off buying a house for a year, so while I am takeing on more risk then I normally want to I am not being a total fool. Besides the I really don't see much chance of AMD collapsing.

Tim,

A couple of words from someone who is a lot smarter after this last pullback......be careful. I was close to 20% margin when the pullback hit and I thought I had room for error. I was wrong.

I say this to you because you already are on margin.....you borrowed $1000 from your discover card. AMD is a risky investment.....let me say that again. AMD is a risky investment.....any investment in stocks is. Even if AMD does not look likely to collapse, there is a very good chance the markets will and they could take AMD down with it.

I will never again exceed 10% when on margin....I have learned that that's as risky as I need to get.

ted

"Humble Pie."
Sing it to Don McLean's (or Madonna's) "American Pie."

A long, long week ago
I can still remember
how the market used to make me smile
What I'd do when I had the chance
Is get myself a cash advance
And add another tech stock to the pile.
But Alan Greenspan made me shiver
With every speech that he delivered
Bad news on the rate front
Still I'd take one more punt

I can't remember if I cried
When I heard about the CPI
I lost my fortune and my pride
The day the NASDAQ died

So bye-bye to my piece of the pie
Now I'm gettin' calls for margin
'Cause my cash account's dry
It's just two weeks
from a new all-time high
And now we're right back
where we were in July
We're right back where we were in July

Did you buy stocks you never heard of?
QCOM at 150 or above?
'Cos George Gilder told you so
Now do you believe in Home Depot?
Can Wal-Mart save your portfolio?
And can you teach me what's a P/E ratio?

Well, I know that you were leveraged too
So you can't just take a long-term view
Your broker shut you down
No more margin could be found
I never worried on the whole way up
Buying dot coms
from the back of a pickup truck
But Friday I ran out of luck

It was the day the NAAAASDAQ died
