This was a HOSTAGE TAKING.

After months of negotiations the government had no alternative but to go and free the you victim of the kidnapping.

They did so swiftly and peacefully!!!

If there aren't legal grounds for charging them, then your laws lack something, imho.
But Eli n is now out in one piece, at least physically, and i don't see what good it would do to perpetuate their phoney attempts at martyrdom ... better maybe to send them a few boxes of beer and tell them to get over it.

An old friend of mine was for years liaison to the Mounties, dealing with their child abuse cases, he oversaw the collection of evidence and the putting together of charges et cetera, working with the Crown Prosecutor. Without giving any names, of course, he told me many stories of cases ... they tended to fall into two main categories -

1. Claims of abuse that clearly had substance but were extremely difficult to prove to a judge.

2. Claims of abuse that arose in the process of a custody battle. These were in the majority, almost routine, and while usually without substance they absorbed inordinate amounts of his time and resources.

After twelve or so years he was burnt out, got another job.
