Scumbria, I have to second your point there, I don't follow things as closely as you, but my general recollection is that the Compaq machines with the MediaGx were the original "cheap PCs", the start of the sub-$1k market. Which turned out to be quite a market, at least at the consumer level. I don't think Intel had much interest in seeing that market develop.

I'm still a little puzzled that mainstream business still tends to go for the more expensive spread, the standard Windows/Office setup isn't the most demanding thing out there in terms of processing requirements. E-machines make as much sense there as anywhere.
