So DDI is also pressured by Nokia? They are using cmdaone at this point, nothing to do with Nokia. Why do they want to switch to wcdma?

They don't necessarily want to switch to DS-CDMA. In fact, they are building out their 1x network as fast as they can. That is where their yen are going. OTOH, it doesn't cost a penny to look at all of the future possibilities in future spectrum. Hence the announcements regarding DS-CDMA.

By the time DS-CDMA is commercially available, DDI/IDO will have had plenty of experience operating a 3G network with their 1XMC and 1XHDR efforts. So, the decision on what to use with additional spectrum will be based on real-world experiences and very well may not be to use DS-CDMA.
