Demand creates the Market

Philosophically, yes. In many cases, yes. Not in all cases.

Sure, at a high enough level, one could say the need or demand for a faster cart created the market for the automobile. At a practical level, for this example, the car was an invention and created the market. The same is true for ATHM today.

Some time ago, a brilliant detergent manufacturer decided to add blue crystals to their soap. The crystals did nothing more than provide product differentiation. The soap was appropriately branded and the rest is history. You do have blue crystals in you soap, don't you?
