Here try this:

Attach a running W to his legs, two collars around the ankles with rings. Run a rope through the ring on his left ankle through to a ring on the front of his belt and around to the other ankle. Any time he shows resistance, balks or puts up a fuss pull him down on his knees and pop him across the tip of his nose with a flat leather quirt until he holds his nose straight up in the air. You might have to spark him a time a two with your spur if pitches a fit but he will only do it a couple of times.

Next lesson we will teach him to double and turn on the haunches by running him along the fence.
