<< It depends on the overall market tone. Also, if there is any bad news from AMD, the high institutional ownership may cause it to drop like a rock in no time, before any of us would have a chance to bail out. But, if there is continued good news from AMD, high Institutional ownership may help AMD reach its full valuation much sooner. >>

I think institutions as a whole will hold the stock through bad news better than an individual investor. Though since they own so many shares if they do decide to sell it dumps the price real fast. However, when they aren't selling it makes it awefully hard to find shares to buy.

<< The main thing I'm interested in is the current number of AMD short Interest for this month. This data has not been yet updated on Yahoo. If the short interest in AMD has gone up - with the increased institutional ownership, we may see great fireworks with any gap up in the AMD share price. >>

A short squeeze could gap us up, but I would think the short interest will be declining and not going up as AMD seems more and more sound fundamentally.

Goutama,
The short interest has been updated. As of April 10th, it was 10.8 million shares, up from 10.3 million on March 8th.

Still, this info doesn't hold much weight with me. This date is 2 days before earnings. We've been on a tear since. I'd like to know how much is short now. Does anyone have a better source than April 10th?
