Many people had to sell after they bought in real estate in early '90s. They were not rich enough to survive.

Many folks were called in by the bank or S&L. Unless they were Trump, in which case, the banks were in too deep.

That's the truth. I knew a fellow who bought a modest house at a huge price on a 90% mortgage at the height of the Boston area real estate boom. He said, "I think of it as an investment." Before long his "investment" could not be sold for 80% of what he paid, and he was stuck with the mortgage payments.
