Do you mean what does this have to do with Elian? What is has to do with Elian is that the country that he probably will be send back to is an oppressive dictatorship, and sending someone back into oppression is a bad thing. There is nothing inhuman or inhumane about worrying about sending a young child back to an oppressive country. Of course keeping a child away from his father is a bad thing as well.
I have not said that the child should be kept from his father. I merely say that the oppression should not be trivialized. It is politics but it is a political issue of deep moral and practical consequence. Oppression is inhumane, unfortunately it is too often very human. No one should be happy about Elian going back to a country like Cuba even if they are happy about the child going back to his father.
