Hi NightOwl; The rumor I heard (I live in the Seattle area), is that MSFT made the operating system difficult to pirate through complexity. But that same thing makes it difficult to avoid screwing up. I do know that I absolutely hate having to install windows onto a machine, and am inclined to just replace it if the machine is starting to get a little old.

In addition, by making the OS so complex, they were also able to avoid having someone reverse engineer the user interface, thereby providing an OS that would be cheaper and would run the same applications.

Remember what happened to DrDOS?
