This makes our difference very clear. You are reaching conclusions based on observations of moral discourse, I am reaching conclusions based on observations of moral systems as they actually exist in practice. These are of course very different things, and it is hardly surprising that we disagree.

But were we discussing the origins of moral discourse, or the origins of morality? Would you not agree that the basic tenets of human morality were laid down long before any recorded example of moral discourse?
