Enigma :"...the parallel doesn't hold up"

I guess so. I'm relating the brutal tactics of Reno's operatives to Mugabe's thugs.

"...The farmers have decided not to provoke everything - deliberately staying unarmed - so they are lambs to the slaughter."

True. Have they a choice? They are citizens of Zimbabwe who legally own their land. They didn't steal it from anyone. They have a right to expect the police to protect them especially since the High Court ordered them to do so. What we are witnessing is a human rights violation disguised as a justifiable land grab.

"Property rights be damned - and the RSA is in full support?"

The ANC government here is in a dilemma. Perhaps in their hearts they support what Mugabe is doing but never openly. I understand Mbeki has put together a deal which arranges international finance for proper land purchases in return for withdrawal of the thugs and the undertaking to hold free and fair elections.

"How do the whites in SA who own farms feel and will they be as passive?"

I'm sure like all SAf whites, including me, feel --- damn worried! Many are looking to emigrate. Whether they will be as passive as the Zim farmers is anyone's guess. Already hundreds of white SAf farmers have been murdered. Even I have been held up at gunpoint, tied with wire, and robbed in my own home. Also threatened with death if I didn't comply with demands. Today, most SAf white families are victims of hi-jacking, murder, armed robbery, mugging etc. Life here is not so easy. Reason I stay is that I reckon I'm too old to start life afresh somewhere else.
