The beauty of investing in Softbank is that no single technical blunder will have a major effect on the value of the Company. Sort of like a well managed mutual fund. Normally this diversification also leads to a slow moving, somewhat boring investment. The difference between Softbank and a mutual fund (even an internet mutual fund) is that Softbank is in a position to enhance the value of each of it's sub investments through synergy (both technical and business wise). Coupled with Son's demonstrated political skills and connections, Softbank appears to be uniquely positioned in the Internet World to create value beyond simple investing. Hopefully, the rapid development of the internet will rescue us from a long term boring experience. I don't suppose anyone would view the last few months as a boring investment experience <G>.

I mention these general points because I view Terabeam as a long shot, much like Motorola's ill fated Iridium Project. Of course Iridium has been proven to be technologically feasible but not economically viable. BTW, I worked on a laser searchlight project while a graduate student at the U of Arizona Graduate School of Optical Sciences. I hope that Terabeams technology is not based on our original work back in the 70's <G>.
