If the dealer has an ace showing, the best he can have is 20. The odds are 2:1 he'll have to hit versus 1:2 for a pat hand. If I'm on a roll, I'll double down every time.

That's provided the weenie in the #2 position doesn't split his kings.

All green felt quiz folks:
Doubling down on 11 into an ace? It all depends on whether you are playing with the house chips or your own. But I don't see that as permabull thinking.
In fact, I would say tekboy's AMD play was a safer bet then doubling down into an ace.

Tis it not the case that if the dealer has an Ace, dealer asks all players if they want insurance. After insurance bets are placed/denied, dealer checks for blackjack, and if so the hand is terminated then and there, without hit/stand by players. Thus, if the player is given the opportunity to hit/stand/double it is already known that the dealer does NOT have blackjack, and a double may be a wise bet.
Or am I having another senior moment. It has been a while since my last visit to the green felt Gods.
