Social evolution is motivated by the desire of progress...that is
why, in the course of time, we develop institutions conducive to that, such as the
rule of

Imperative:"Never treat
another human being as merely a means, but also as an end"......

and if we should
develop institutions (in the "course of time") that enslave everyone, if
technology becomes a way to track humans and control them, will that
mean you were.... wrong? That seems the corollary to your argument.

I said the above because you seem to argue that social evolution is motivated by "progress" (whatever that is and however you define it)- but what IF we cease to see progress (as you define it) which is what I was trying to get at- what if social evolution becomes motivated by anti- progress (however you might define that)- society would still change and evolve- it would have new pressures on it, and would evolve based on the desire for anti- progress. I don't know for what that would be adaptive- but I can think of SOME situations that would make your statement "Social evolution is motivated by the desire of progress..." untrue. And that's all I need to do, in my mind.

UNLESS I define all change- no matter what kind- as "progress"- if that, THEN your statement would seem to be true. BUt I don't think from the context of your post- that that is how you are using progress.
