I probably would, but it depends on what you want out of the system. If your goal is for something that mechanically generates buy/sell signals, a crossover of any degree might be legitimate.

One refinement that occurred to me would be to vary the size of the long and short positions according to the prevailing trend -- maybe slap a 40ma on top of the chart and when it's going up, go long 400 shares and short 300, and when it's going down, 300 long and 400 short. Just an idea...
