If they can make money doing this, I'll be amazed. They will succeed, I suspect, in cannabilizing AMTD's business; I'd be more worried if I were an AMTD investor with this news than I am being an EGRP investor....

If this arena consolidates, Ameritrade pretty much signed their own death sentence. Would either SCH or EGRP want to buy them knowing that they get the free trading portion of Ameritrade's business also? The infection that free trading will cause in Ameritrade would then be spread to the acquiring brokers customers. Seems like this is a desperate move.

i think Ameritrade is missing the whole point.
the game here is technology, not commissions.
i don't think the game was EVER played on commissions.
what attracted me to ETrade in 1997 was the possibility to trade ONLINE and instant executions, not neccessarily the cheap commissions.

BWAC, are u nuts??? ETrade buy Ameritrade??? you really think Cotsakos is that stupid??? ETrade brings in almost a whole Ameritrade account base in a single quarter for $ 177 million in advertising, and you think ETrade will buy Ameritrade?? what for??
it doesn't make sense at all.
Ameritrade customers will come to ETrade all by themselves.

i find it denigrating each time i read the EGRP name beside AMTD.
ETrade has to get that stupid company with the stupid Ricketts CEO off its back.

the game here is between SCHWAB and ETRADE.
FORGET THE REST.
