I am not at all surprised to see a gloomy outlook from Microsoft. This is just good timing and good strategy. Their company is on the brink of being torn apart by the Govt. What unjust mean Government would hurt poor poor Microsoft now that the business is turning down. It is also no secret that PC sales are not as strong as before. That affects their core business...PC software. They have a long history of positioning themselves to exceed expectations. This is just another chapter.

Dear tekboy: Hmmm, they are still not willing to tell the truth. No where do I see the reason W2,000 isnt selling is cause SUNW is BEATING THE PANTS off the Wintel machines. Period, end of statement. JDN

Another reason for slower corporate pentration is the
capacity problems at Intel. AMD - no matter how well it
executes - cannot fill Intel's shoes. There are not a whole
lot of high end P3s. For now, it is hostage to Intel's
execution. ouch!

JDN: re Solaris taking away share. May be, but not relevant here. To it's credit, Sun never misses a photo-opp...
