I just read today's interview of the Qualcomm executive while drinking Coca-Cola, which is not a good idea. I laughed so hard that soda started spraying out of my left nostril. Just wanted to share that image with you.

It's so hard to decide what is the best quote. The guy admitted being "very surprised" by the DDI decision. How's that for keeping in touch with your biggest customer?

He blithely dismissed the 10 billion dollar price tag for building a cdma2000 network in Japan by saying that "money is available". Maybe someone should tell him what is happening on Wall Street. 10 billion isn't what it used to be.

But my favorite part has to be: "We cannot live with a situation monopolized by the wrong technology."

This sentence is so rich in hubris and arrogance; so exquisitely oblivious to the idea that the customer is always right.

Vendors are supposed to serve the mobile operators; not cram technology down their throats. It will be interesting to see whether DDI is cowed by this hissy fit. I think that DDI will probably call Qualcomm's bluff and invite them to spend ten billion dollars to build that cdma2000 network.
