Steven, What you quoted that I said, in no way, espouses the establishment of a state religion, nor would I support such a measure. I support the freedom to worship however one pleases. I may disagree with the religious tenets of other religions but, would not try to prevent those people from practicing those tenets as long, as you say, no one is harmed in the so doing. I realize that the government we have today, is not a true democracy, if there ever was one, but the majority is still supposed to be the deciding factor. Christianity is the majority religion in the area where I live, but I do not suggest that we should be calling all the shots. I do believe that we should be able to observe a moment of silence, or even a spoken prayer, in public. No one of other beliefs is asked to participate, or is chastised for not doing so. I find it strange that the preponderance of protests against public prayer, etc. does not come from Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Taoists, or Shintos. The flap is being caused by Atheists and Agnostics. The charge that Christians are abusing the beliefs of other faiths is, therefore, bogus. Unfortunately, this is not the case in the countries of these other religions. Christians in red China, North Korea, India, Pakistan, and most other Muslim countries, are forbidden to worship in the Christian Faith, are beaten, imprisoned, and in some cases, murdered for doing so. I would like to see an Atheist go to China and start yelling that Buddha was a fake, or go to India and say that the three gods of Hinduism were merely disgruntled humans. He would be lucky to return with his head still attached to his torso. ~H~
