Steven, it's a myth there is such a thing as benign neutrality. If it's tolerance you admire, then we should tolerate religious views of all types. Even environmental religious views. Humanistic atheists want to teach us their religion as much as the Pat Robertson's of the world do. In the school my son attends, a different child is chosen each day to say the pledge over the speaker system. It's considered an honor for good behavior or work accomplished. Why not leave it up to the child how it is spoken? Some days you may get God, other days you may have a blank, or Allah for all I care. What's the big deal anyway? That to me is tolerance. Tolerance is not forcing your beliefs on someone else to NOT say something you find offensive. In other words, I am tolerant as long as you agree with me or are silent. And if you can't or won't, I will force by law my beliefs on you. Liberals are soooo sensitive about everything they disagree with they want to pass laws to ban everything they find offensive. TP is a perfect example. There is no constitutional amendment to "not be offended". The politically correct crowd may have convinced you otherwise. If we supported conservatives in the passing of "school choice" legislation, this issue would be significantly less offensive. However, the liberals want to "force" children to attend their secular humanistic schools. Once again demonstrating liberals are "forcing" their beliefs on the rest of us. Why would Democrats care what school your child attends unless they were worried about losing "control" of their secular education process? If it was the three R's they were concerned about. They would let the parents and students decide what school they want to attend. And trust me here Steven, most parents and kids would want to attend a school in which other parents and kids say, "So help me God" in the pledge of allegiance. The liberal Democrats are simply afraid of democracy. So they feel it necessary to pass laws forcing their beliefs on everyone else, instead of winning the issue in the hearts and minds of the public. Attend our school and say the pledge the way we want it, or we will discipline you, is not my idea of "tolerance". Michael
