Following the thinking of Dent, it isn't the available work force that will be the problem. We actually have a worker shortage right now, and some immigration would certainly help that, but when the depression comes it will presumably be accompanied by high unemployment. Immigrants at that time won't be helpful at all because they would be the same age as the echo baby boom. The problem according to Dent will be the declining spending as the baby boom moves into retirement and there is a shortage of free-spending 40-48 year olds.
