No matter how good Williamette is, AMD has won in 2000 and since their are not sleeping with their microprocessor development, they are going to be at least as strong in 2001 (remember Coppermine will remain Intel's volume processor through 2001).

Further, AMD is taking away Intel's current biggest advantage over AMD chips, which is on chip L2 cache and this will happen in 2H. Look for the old Athlong to vaporize quite quickly because on chip cache Athlons are also MUCH cheaper for AMD to make. AMD also has great opportunity to expand into the workstation/server market because its current processor, Athlon, is a stellar performer and will present an extremely cost/performance alternative to Williamette and Merced.

Intel has damaged its supply base. These people are losing real money because of Intel's inability to ramp the Coppermine at the rate that AMD currently is the Athlon. These suppliers will look for alternative. The reason AMD is sold out for the quarter so quickly is because the OEM's after that Intel CC quickly realized that if they did not up their orders now with AMD they could well again face a critical shortage of parts.

The anlaysts have missed the boat. The growth from the internet is much larger in the consumer segment than it is in the business segment. The business segment is simply in an upgrade mode while the consumer segment is rapidly growing as more and more people can afford to purchase a PC because of the lower prices that have been brough to us by companies like Cyrix and AMD."

I think GGGL has made some good observations.

Hi Dave,

RE: "A friend has been referring to these products for a while"

An IT type? They are one of the best folks to listen to when it comes to this stuff, and so far they seem to like it.

I picked up some ms leaps yesterday.
