Hi Zeev - you may still see your rally, Naz vol is way below average. Recently history has shown it should reach about 1B by noon. Any idea who may be the emerging leader(s)? A different segment of tech or non tech altogether? best, Bosco

This is probably the main reason for the drop in siii. taipeitimes.com --- United Microelectronics Corp, the world's second-largest microchip foundry, appears to be slipping into a battle with the government over its newly completed processing plant in the Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park (úsÝÓªó€ô‚øØ), after having failed to obtain permission to build the plant in a water reservoir area. The Environmental Protection Administration (·“®O÷p, EPA) has ruled that work on the plant must be halted until the issue can be resolved. In response, officials from UMC said yesterday they would demand government compensation for any financial losses or impact on the company's reputation. The company's shares closed at NT$97 yesterday, down NT$3 from the previous day's close. EPA officials said yesterday they had received endless calls of protest from UMC shareholders asking it to reconsider its decision. ...(etc etc etc) If I remember correctly, I think taipei stocks halt trading after a 3% drop. Each day of down time in each fab has dire consequences to the bottom line. Forgetting to clear EPA assessment and building a fab next to a water reservoir :: These guys are insane --- what a maroon.
