Zak,

Although it's entertaining, I tend to agree with you that the guy is probably going above & beyond in his interpretations. Personally, I would lean towards all the references pertaining to music only - I have always assumed Mr. McLean was addressing his feelings towards the "death of Rock 'n Roll" and any reference to politics or anything else is more than likely just silly.

BTW, I have read more than once that the rumor "American Pie" being the name of the airplane is totally false. I did enjoy his theory that the "Queen" was Little Richard tho - LOL!

Keep in mind that as far as I'm concerned, there has been only one decade when it comes to great music which may explain my fondness for this song - i.e. my judgement may be somewhat tainted. ;)
