The current strength in the dollar reflects to a considerable degree two factors that have nothing to do with the US markets.

The falling apart of a planned merger of 2 major German banks. Apparently some feel that Eurobanks must get much bigger to compete with Citi and Chase.

Troubles for the Italian ruling coalition.
