The Miami Cubans may not be entirely heroic. There is, in fact, a lot of resentment directed toward other Cuban-Amricans, for a number of reasons. First, there is a perception that the Miami Cubans are to this day dominated by a group of families that were prominent and wealthy during the Batista years; many Cubans still feel that the excesses of this group were largely responsible for Castro's rise to power. Second, the Miami Cubans are perceived as having had a disproportionate influence on US policy toward Cuba. Third, many of the families that dominate the Miami Cuban scene are widely believed to have been involved in some rather shady businesses, with underworld connections, during their Cuban years; some believe that they have been involved in the same businesses since their relocation to the US.

The "Little Havana" group is by no means representative of all Cuban-Americans.
