I can't see why we can't buy calling cards for them also. Swipe the card, and presto, off you go on your merry way making calls again. I don't have the article handing, but it was my way to illustrate how mature and evolving along the same lines cell phone industry is as compared to the PC industry.

If the vending machine is made out of cardboard all the phones inside will be stolen.

A cell phone is useless without being acknowledged and authenticated by the network; a stolen phone is about as good as money tainted by pink explosive cartridges.
