panic,

re :register price cuts

Have you looked at Pricewatch?

The prices have almost dropped a speed grade.
I can now buy a 700 Athlon for almost the same price a 650 was selling for last weekend.

panic,

<where are those AMD price cuts the Register expects?>

Apparently these have already taken place. Changes in Price Watch of late tend to confirm that.

<Do AMD and Intel finally agree that duopoly is better than mutual destruction? >

When the capacity is not there it is downright dumb to cut prices. Both AMD and Intel do not seem to be in a position to ship much additional product this quarter.

<Anyone speculate what's cooking at the AMD shareholder meeting? That should be the perfect occasion for Jerry to pour more fuel to the fire, IMHO.>

I can easily see OEMs panicking because of supply shortages from Intel and starting to place massive order on AMD to build inventory going into Christmas season. Even the rosiest numbers that are being thrown around may start looking conservative IF THIS HAPPENS.

In such a scenario, barring any execution problems, this year will be a blowout for AMD - MORE THAN MOST PEOPLE THINK - including some of the incorrigible bulls on this thread think ;-)

P.S.: I am GIGA surprised that there were no upgrades today. At the same time the stock action and I-Watch activity indicates that some of these analysts may be doing private briefings to their big clients. I will be keeping track of the analyst action to see if the average estimates do not move to about $1.50 in the next few days.
