What with years of cumulative bitterness, though, I think it's more likely that they will spend their energies on suing, demonstrating, or negotiating for reparations rather than befriending and supporting the Cubans who currently occupy the ol' homestead in building a new government and new economy.

I'll admit that the Cuban Americans have a strident voice. But considering the situation it seems warranted. There's nothing automatic about democracy, you have to fight for it. I also think that they know all too well that when push comes to shove their interests will be sold out by the federals (John F Kennedy's duplicity comes to mind).
