Leafs fans figure tonight's the night

By DEREK TSE, TORONTO SUN
The Toronto Maple Leafs will wipe the ice with the Ottawa Senators tonight.

That's what Leafs fans are predicting as the two teams face off tonight for Game 6 of their playoff series at the Corel Centre in Ottawa.

"Ottawa's been living on borrowed time," said 27-year-old Raven Karuna, who works in banking.

"They've been living as well as (Sens' goalie Tom) Barrasso's been prepared to take them. As soon as that guy shows up like the chump that he is, they'll go down."

"I think the Leafs have a good chance," said systems analyst Darrin Hicks, 34.

"They're on a high now. They'll go into Ottawa and want to finish it early."

Carpenter Brett Milinkovich, 29, said the Leafs will win because "they're the better team. The whole year they were having a lot of trouble with Ottawa, but it's a whole different game in the playoffs.

"They're my team, I have to say that."

Graphic designer Mark Andrews, 45, said the key to winning the game would be to "run the goaltender."

"There doesn't seem that there's ever anybody in front of Barrasso when the puck's being dumped in."

"The Leafs have to create more traffic in front of the net," said another armchair coach, 28-year-old bartender Jay Dimaline. "And also they've got to stop dancing in the zone, they've got to dump and chase."

Leafs fever has even afflicted newcomers to Canada. Australian microbiologist Kyle Raidy, 23, said the Leafs will prevail because "(winger) Steve Thomas is scoring a lot of goals now and (captain) Mats Sundin is playing well."

But one fan insisted the Leafs would fall tonight. "Unfortunately, the Leafs are not going to win," predicted charity fundraiser Rick Marrero, 45.

But he quickly added: "They're going to win the seventh game in dramatic style at the Air Canada Centre."
