Registry stuff...

Your registry can be manipulated with REGEDIT. For a once or twice bit of work with it, you can use START/RUN REGEDIT, but if you're lazy, make a shortcut to it.

REGEDIT, unlike most Windows programs, makes your changes instantly. You don't get a second chance. Like driving a car with no reverse. Not nice!

I don't know what you're trying to do, but it sounds like you're trying to get rid of some keys. If you delete what's highlighted, it's gone. Be careful you delete the correct stuff, and be sure you delete all copies of what you're after: The registry makes copies, so some keys are duplicated.

Before doing anything in your registry, make a backup. This step will cost you a moment and could save you hours.

Another approach would be to export keys before removing them. This way, if you find you need the key again, you just import it.

Further, you could do you registry work with .REG files. The advantage to this is you have a record of what's been done. If you do something that needs reversing, you can edit your .REG file and undo the damage. Using .REG files also helps if you're prone to typing errors.

Cheers, PW.

P.S.

A sample .REG file. Note that there's a blank line following the REGEDIT4. (This .REG file sets your score in FREECELL, making you look like a brilliant player.) You could search your system for .REG files and see if further samples came with it.
